Topflight Stamps Birthday Blog Hop!!

Today is the Topflight Stamps 5th Birthday Blog Hop!! I was thrilled to be asked back to help them celebrate, so thank you Donna. If you haven't been over to the website, it is a great place to get those hard to order (especially with overseas shipping these days) companies that are based outside the USA. The supply list is below.  Please hop along with us and see all the beautiful talent from this group of amazing designers! You should have arrived here from Erica Stranges's blog. If not, no worries, catch the details below. *Unfortunately due to new tax laws and the USPS limiting delivery areas Topflight Stamps is only able to ship to US and Canada right now.

I decided to work with mainly Seth Apter products, one of my favorite designers & all around great guy. I really needed another phone stand plus these are so fun to make & very handy to have all over the house! They also make great gifts. The base of the stand is a Sizzix die cut by Eileen Hull.

Here is the graphic for the Birthday Celebration!! Who doesn't love a sale? Time to stock up! Bonus fun there is more...

How about a quick tutorial? I will also share some awesome Gel Press wipe up prints that came about as I was working. You will want to cut 1 base out of mat board for this project. It comes together really easily.  Starting with Fresco Finish Paint & doing some wipe up to clean my press a bit. I like using a light color like Nougat, Vanilla or even a blue like Antarctic. If these colors are not available simply look for light colored paint. I brayered just a bit of light tone like Truffle on my board.

Here is the wipe up print. A wipe up print is when you take your dirty Gel Press that has dried paint on it. Add a layer of paint & put your paper down. The idea is you want the wet paint to dry on the paper & the layer of dry paint so it will pull up. Keep rubbing until the paper is not as cold 30 sec to a minute? Depending on the paint you are using.

You can lift up a corner to see if that dirty layer is being pulled up. Wait too long and the paper will stick to the plate. You can also just clean you plate with a baby wipe or hand sanitizer gel. Here is what my plate looked like after, there is still some paint there which can be cleaned up, sorry no before but you can see all the paint that is on the print. That was on my plate!

Next added some more color. You chose what colors you like to use. This was done just dabbing some color from the plate to the board.

I have 2 Gel Press videos which will show you how easy & fun it is to create pieces which can be used in other projects or added to the mat board before you cut out your shapes.

Now how about some stencil work. When using the press you will want to put your stencil face down so the letters are backwards. That way what ever you pull the letters will be in the right direction. Add the paint on top of the stencil, lift the stencil.

Press the board onto the stencil image in a few different places. This is one of my favorite Gel Press tricks. I show you how to do this in the video.

Here I am just building up the color adding Magic Moss paint from the press onto the board in different spots. Notice how it pushes the letter back a bit? Changes the color in spots. So fun! I am also pressing the 2 smaller pieces, you can see them in the upper right corner.

Here is my finished background. I also use the paint to stamp some images. Put a bit of paint on the plate, brayer it out & then dab the stamp in it. Stamp. Clean your stamp immediately with water & a rag or toothbrush. You don't want that paint to dry on your stamp.

I showed the paints I used, if Topflight Stamps doesn't have the one you want just substitute it. Don't be afraid to play around with your color palette. Here is a close up of the stand put together. Hot Tip: wait until you finish building the main cover area before you put it together LOL.

Alright time to add more stamping. I did this in 3 ways. #1 stamping on tissue paper with archival ink, then using a paint brush to tear the image out.

#2 was using embossing powder. Seth has 2 new trios out & I got my hands on one of them. Welcome to the family Just Deserts. I love swatching new colors, really helps when I go to design.

I also swatched some Prism Inks. These were all done using French Toast. The original color is underneath- Wow see how this expands your color choices?!

Adding the title Mixed Media using Mud Pie embossing. While I was working also added some images to those wipe up prints for art journal use. You can also see the tissue paper stamped with story teller. Love this set so many great images.

To finish & protect the surface of the stand I used a varnish. If you like a matt finish you can go with Cosmic Shimmer. I like gloss so I used Liquetex Gloss Medium & Varnish. It starts out milky but dries super clear & glossy.  Hot Tip: Make sure your tissue paper images stay down, you may need to smooth out any bubbles that are created. Also if you board bows a bit don't worry it will be fine when dry & you can gentle bend it into submission LOL.

Last here is my phone on the stand. Makes for such convenience. With so much of our lives on our phone having this mixed media stand just makes me happy!!! I hope you have a chance to get inky today. Make sure to check out the other makers & Happy Birthday Topflight!!

Art Card with Seth Apter Products

Hello, fans of all things inky! I am here working with some of Seth Apter's latest release for Topflight Stamps. This release is with one of my favorite companies, PaperArtsy & includes 3 new stamp sets & 4 new paints. *If the products are sold out on Topflight, simply click on the "email when available" button on the left side of the Topflight Stamps site to be notified when they are back in stock.

Decided to continue my journey into art card/pockets. This time I pulled out an art tag that was made a bit ago & created a companion pocket. It will go in my latest junk journal & made me very happy to create a home for this funky cool tag. If you want to check out the tag tutorial you can find it here. There is also a video so you can play along!

*** I have also changed my email subscription to Follow It. This is just general housekeeping but you should now receive my blog notification from them. If you didn't get this post in your in box be sure to check your spam folder & add "Follow It" as a contact. Also if you don't want to miss a post just add your email to the box on the right of my blog to receive them in your inbox!

Here is a video for you!! Play along with me as I go through step by step to creating this mixed media card or pocket! This would also be great as a cover of a journal. Right let's get to inking!! I made 2 backgrounds & you can see them in the video.

Step 1: using the new colors (Fuzzy Cactus, Aquave, & Desert Bush) of Fresco Finish paint & a brayer, simply roll some paint onto card stock.

White & black card were used to give me an option. In the end I went with the black card stock piece so the photos may be a bit different but the technique is the same.

Step 2: Add some stencil work. This was done using Mud Splat & Double Denim with a cosmetic sponge. Use a deli paper as your palette, then reuse it in your journals. You will see that is how I added my title below.

Step 3: Embossed images add that fabulous pop of dimension & shine. I pull out my swatch book to help decide what colors to use. So handy.

These images were added with stamps, wow embossing pad & 3 colors of powder. Crusty Copper (circle), Blue Moon & Sea of Tranquility. Great names for powder too, plus very accurate as far as a description goes.

Step 4: Using a piece of junk deli paper from my stash, the quote was stamped in archival ink. The ink needs to dry for a minute then the piece was torn out & decoupaged to my card. Love that pop of color.

Finishing up. The edges were sew with my machine in sort of a sloppy, mixed stitches kinda way.

Lastly the stencil images were inked & smudged to help add some dimension. White ink pen was also added to the embossed images. Just helps them pop. Thanks so much for joining me today!! I hope you check out my YouTube video, subscribe & play along. Have a great inky day!

Topflight Stamps 4th Birthday Blog Hop!

It's Topflight Stamps 4th birthday and to celebrate, I’ve teamed up with some great designers to showcase birthday cards using the unique products available at Topflight Stamps. Please hop along with us and see all the beautiful talent from this group of amazing designers! You should have arrived here from Cornelia Wenokor's blog. If not, no worries, catch the details below. I also have a video so you can follow along with me. You can see it below or link to it here.

I am not a card maker but I managed this mixed media explosion of color & I kinda love it! Yes basically an art journal page for a card but it counts! I also had so much fun making this & may have gotten carried away. I kinda like when that happens.

Here is the logo for our birthday hop. I hope you play along cause you can win prizes! Don't forget the awesome sale too!

I did make a wee video for you to play along with me. I hope you pull out some of your supplies too. This card can easily be changed up to be a tag, an art journal page or a piece to put in your junk journal.

So fun to use multiple products on this card. Don't you love playing with all the things?

I do go over all the techniques in my video but here is a quick rundown for you. The magic of Art By Marlene's collage paper is the base to this kraft card stock card. I used a large craft scraper called stencil pal to apply the glue. It's a new way for me but I kinda like it. All the supplies & links to product are below.

Stamp your focal image in archival ink. This cute cupcake stamp is PaperArtsy by Jofy. Perfect for any celebration. Using the new Lavinia Ink pads or a die based ink put some on your palette with a small spritz of water. Take a water brush & simply water color the image. Mixing these ink colors also gives you a larger palette as you can see in my video. For the frosting only the lines were colored.

Once the image was completely dry adding some chunky emboss for the frosting seemed logical. Crystal Glaze emboss by Andy Skinner has all sorts of mixed chunky goodness. Different blues, greens & copper it is very dynamic. Use a paint brush & embossing ink put on your palette. Try & avoid the lines of the frosting image but you can always use a paint marker to add them back in as I did.

Both my focal image & the card Using washi tape is always the right answer. When adhering my paper crooked the bottom of the paper was torn so adding a strip of washi was a quick fix!

Next up let's add some stamping. After the image was adhered down with double sided tape, multiple stamp "celebrate" quotes were made to give me some options. Darkroom Door Labels & Christmas sentiment stamp were perfect. My quote was easy to find using Art By Marlene's sticky quotes. Now we are getting somewhere.

Time to add some background stamping! Sometimes I do this at the beginning of making my background but today it was done after the card was almost complete. To keep the images from being to dark they were stamped once on card stock & then stamped on my background using lighter pressure. Bonus is left over collage fodder. A few different stamps by Seth Apter worked well.

That is it! My card is complete & ready to be sent. I actually think I will put it in my Photo Journal with pictures on the inside of the card, from this years family birthdays. Thanks so much for joining me today. Read below for the prize info, the supply list & the link list. I hope you get a chance to get inky!
